The Journey

Imagination, inspiration, and creation are always and has been at the forefront of my soul. Before knowing my path would be in the creative field, I brought to life the many visions and thoughts I had in my head through multiple mediums. In 3rd grade, my teacher convinced me to enter an art competition where I won first place in my first event. By middle school, I was drawing and painting portraits for classmates, teachers, parents and so on. However, in high school, I was introduced to music technology.

This fascinating and electronic way of putting sounds together provided me a new technological challenge, which I accepted, and spent the next few years composing music, writing lyrics and learning the craft. Years later, I would win a music award for independent music, awarded by Midwest Entertainment Music Association (Omaha, NE 2003).

By the time I graduated high school, I knew the only thing I wanted to do in life as a career was to create. But many would say how hard and difficult it was to make a living in the creative field, almost discouraging me-but ambition and passion would outweigh the feeling. In college, I began searching for clues as to what I could do if I couldn't get into the field. After rotating through numerous degrees including Medical Technology, Psychology, Computer Programming, and Business, I came across a program called Photoshop. I was amazed how one could manipulate pictures with software and there flowed another adrenaline rush of creativity. I spent more time learning and playing with Photoshop rather than studying my other course work. Still, with no clue and guidance as to what I could do learning this program, I stumbled into a video studio used for Broadcast Journalism.

A new form of art, video editing and production, gave me something to look forward to. I could use my photoshop skills to make graphics as well as bring my imagination to screen. At the same time, I could use my passion for music to lay out scores and music beds for productions. Finally, I graduated with my Bachelors in Broadcast Journalism and Communications with a minor in Studio Art.

With my knowledge, I was hired to build Fastenal Company's in house video lab where I would script, direct, shoot, and edit film for the company. After 6 years of work I found myself looking for a new challenge. My mind was in full speed, but due to the company's choice of demographic, I was not given the opportunity to get outside of the box and expand on my skill. I found myself wanting greater challenges and something that would challenge me for many more years to come. One day, browsing some graphic design work online, I stumbled on a site that offered a free 3D software to learn; Blender. After I saw what cold be done with 3D programs, I knew I finally found my calling.

I immediately started to learn the program, and researched other software to execute this new medium I discovered for myself. I began implementing 3D modeling and animation to the company videos the company was not yet interested in going that route. With my current employer's blessings, I enrolled for my MFA at Digital Media Arts College, in Boca Raton to pursue my MFA in Visual Effects and Animation.

Immediately after receiving my MFA, I was hired to work for Stereo D in Burbank, CA where I worked on blockbuster feature films including Iron Man 3, The Avengers, Pacific Rim, GI Joe: Retaliation, Star Trek: Into The Darkness, Guardians of the Galaxy and many more. This gave me first hand experience in production pipeline as well as quality delivery for films with my visual effects and compositing skills.

I currently head a medical media department, where I supervise a talented team of production artists and medical writers. Here, I bring my knowledge and skills of multimedia ideas and establish a production pipeline to create cutting edge medical videos.

On my free time, I freelance in photography, 3D design, graphic arts and a wide range of multimedia arts. I also try to take time in playing a bit of guitar and piano as well as dive into computer programming (C#, Game programming, Java, etc) along with testing development with my Emotiv Brain Scanning Device and Oculus Dev Kit. When I'm away from the computer, I enjoy festivals, trips, sight seeing, working on my '84 Honda Magna and the simple pleasures of life for inspiration.
